On Sunday, Indian drug regulator DCGI approved final emergency clearance for two coronavirus vaccines: AstraZeneca and Oxford University's Covishield and Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech's Covaxin.
The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) gave its approval to the recommendation of the Covid-19 Topic Expert Committee (SEC) of the Central Drug Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO).
India plans to vaccinate front-line health staff, key workers and the established immunocompromised population against Coronavirus. Revealing specifics of the arrangements, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said that after more than 2,000 master trainers have been trained at national level, the same process is underway at state and district level in more than 700 districts across the country. Lists of health staff have been drawn up and records will be submitted to the COVID website, Dr. Vardhan (Ministry of Health ) said on the first day of 2021.Two doses of vaccine, 28 days apart, must be taken by the person to complete the vaccination program.
The purpose of the Dry Run for the launch of the COVID-19 vaccine is to determine the practical viability of using the Co-WIN App in the field environment, to measure the linkages between the preparation and execution, and to recognize the difficulties and guidance ahead of the actual implementation. This is also supposed to provide faith to program administrators at different stages, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
CoWIN (COVID Vaccine Intelligence Network) is intended to be a one-stop digital portal to streamline the phased out vaccination process. IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad also declared a challenge asking developers to extend, scale and improve the CoWIN network.
It is reportedly still in production and will be released in the future. As the central government is planning to prescribe the vaccine to frontline staff, specifics of the app have now appeared. These information have been given on the MeitY (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare) web.
The CoWIN App is said to have several modules – Administrator Modules for bulk registration, recipient registration module for self-registration and individual registration, vaccination module for authentication of beneficiary information and alerts of vaccination status, and recipient identification and status updating module for SMS warning details, question of electronic vaccination certificate,The CoWIN dashboard with all the statistics, including details such as location, age, mobile number, vaccination status, date and time of vaccination, vaccination location, session site, health facility and name of the vaccine.
The entire immunization process would be broadly similar to the voting process. On the basis of the number of enrolled beneficiaries and the preference given, vaccination sessions will be planned by the Government.
