Marathi Divas 2021

Dnyanpith Awardee and one of Best Marathi Literature writers ,Vishnu Waman Shirwadkar alias Poet Kusumagraj's birthday is on 27th February. Marathi Bhasha Din is celebrated on the occasion of his birth anniversary. After Kusumagraj received the prestigious 'Dnyanpith Award' in the literary world, the Maharashtra government decided to celebrate his birthday as 'Marathi Language Day'. Various programs are organized on the occasion of Marathi Language Day. That is why the knowledge and beauty of Marathi language needs to be passed on to the next generation.


'Kinara', 'Marathi Mati', 'Wadalvel', 'Visakkha' are his collections of poetry while 'Dusra Peshwa', 'Vij Mhanali Dhartil', 'Natsamrat', 'Rajmukut' etc. are his famous plays. He has some special novels like 'Vaishnav', 'Janhvi', 'On the shore of imagination'.

Marathi language and culture flourished during the Yadava period in Devagiri. It is believed that Marathi language originated from the Maharashtri dialect of Prakrit language under the influence of Sanskrit language. Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj inaugurated the Maratha Empire and it expanded during the Peshwa period.After that, Marathi language got royal patronage. After the independence of India, Marathi got the status of official language. The state of Maharashtra was established in 1960 and Marathi became the state language.

Preservation of Marathi language has become a challenge under the influence of current foreign languages. However, the sweetness of Marathi language can be passed on to the next generation through various activities and programs. It requires constant effort. It is necessary to respond to the reading of Marathi literature, Marathi plays, movies and other works of art.



It is also recognised in Hindi and Marathi as 'Marathi Bhasha Din' and 'Marathi Bhasha Diwas' respectively.This day is governed by the government of the state and is also celebrated in Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh in some regions. On the birthday of Vishnu Vaman Shirwadkar, an eminent Marathi poet, Marathi Language Day is celebrated. To honour the rich history and literature associated with it, Marathi-speaking people in the state celebrate this day. In schools and colleges, essay competitions and seminars are organised on this day. Government officials are asked to conduct different events. हिच्या कुशीत जन्मले, काळे कणखर हात

ज्यांच्या दुर्दम धीराने, केली मृत्यूवरी मात

नाही पसरला कर, कधी मागायास दान

स्वर्णसिंहासनापुढे, कधी लवली ना मान

हिच्या गगनांत घुमे, आद्य स्वातंत्र्याची द्वाही

हिच्या पुत्रांच्या बाहूंत, आहे समतेची ग्वाही
